Common Questions
What does a freelance business support consultant do?
A freelance business support consultant provides practical, flexible help to improve the way your business operates and moves forward. I work with small businesses, founders and growing organisations to identify what isn’t working, create clearer processes, improve customer journeys and turn ideas into action.
That might mean reviewing your day-to-day operations, helping you prioritise what needs attention, managing a piece of work or simply providing an experienced outside perspective when you’re too close to the business to see the solution clearly.
My approach is practical rather than theoretical – the aim is to make your business feel more organised, manageable and easier to run.
Can you help with a one-off business project?
Yes. You can bring me in specifically to manage or support a one-off project without committing to ongoing consultancy.
Freelance project support might include a new service launch, systems or software implementation, office move, business improvement project, customer experience initiative or another piece of work that needs structure, coordination and someone to keep it moving.
I can support the project from initial planning through to implementation, or step in at a particular stage where you need an experienced extra pair of hands.
Do you provide freelance event management?
Yes. I provide freelance event management and event support for businesses and organisations that need help planning and delivering professional events.
This can include business networking events, launch events, conferences, workshops, client or VIP events, charity fundraisers and team celebrations.
Depending on what you need, I can manage the whole event from concept to delivery or support specific areas such as planning, suppliers, venues, guest communications, logistics and on-the-day coordination.
Do you only work with female founders?
No. I work with a wide range of small businesses, founders, charities and organisations.
I am particularly passionate about supporting female founders and women running businesses, especially those based in rural areas, because I understand some of the particular challenges that can come with building a business outside a major city.
However, my business support, project management and event services are available to businesses and organisations of all kinds where I feel I can genuinely add value.
Do you work with businesses outside North Yorkshire?
Absolutely. I’m based near Ripon in North Yorkshire and work with businesses locally across Yorkshire, but I also support clients elsewhere in the UK.
Much of my business consultancy and project support can be delivered remotely through Zoom, email and online project tools, while some projects or events may involve working with you on site.
If you’re unsure whether location will be an issue, get in touch and we can talk through what you need.
Can you support rural businesses?
Yes – supporting rural and small-town businesses is an important part of my work.
Businesses outside major cities can face different challenges, from smaller local markets and seasonal footfall to recruitment, visibility, transport and simply having fewer specialist resources close by.
I provide practical business support for rural businesses and founders, helping with operations, projects, customer experience, events and growth initiatives in a way that takes the realities of running a rural business into account.
What is the difference between consultancy and ongoing business support?
Consultancy is usually focused on helping you solve a particular problem, make a decision or identify opportunities for improvement. We might review an area of the business, work out what needs to change and create a practical action plan.
Ongoing business support is more hands-on. I can work alongside you over a longer period to help implement those ideas, keep projects moving, improve processes and make sure important actions don’t continually get pushed down the list.
You can work with me for a one-off piece of consultancy, a defined project or ongoing freelance business support depending on what your business needs.
What happens after the discovery call?
The free discovery call is simply an opportunity for us to talk about your business, what you need help with and whether I’m the right person to support you.
If I think I can help, I’ll explain the most suitable way for us to work together – whether that’s a one-off consultancy session, freelance project support, event management or more ongoing business support.
There’s no obligation to go ahead. The aim is to make sure the support is genuinely right for both you and your business.
